Prayer of Eid-ul-Adha can be performed in Jama'at or alone

It is recommend to perform Ghusl (Purification Bath) on Eid day. The Ghusl which should preferably performed under a shelter and not under the open sky. The specified time of Eid prayer is between sunrise and the sun's initial decline (Zawal). After that time, the prayer is lost and cannot be offered later as 'Qada'. Women are exempted from this prayer.

It is 'Mustahab' (recommended) to offer Eid prayers with two Kutbas.

Recitation of Takbir before prayer of Eid is highly recommended, which is as follows:

"Allaaho Akbar, Allaaho Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallaah wallaaho Akbar, Allaaho Akbar, Wa lillaahil hamd. Alhamdulillah alaa maa hadaanaa walahu Shukr alaa maa aulana."

The meaning of this Takbeer is as follows: Allah is Great, Allah is Great there is no one worthy of prayer but Allah, and Allah is Great; Allah is Great, all praise be to Allah, it is He Who guides."

Method of the Prayer

This is a 2 Rakaat prayer and its intention (niyyat) is by saying: "I intend to perform 2 Rakaat prayer of Eid-ul-Adha Qurbatan il-Allah".

In the first Rakaat recite the Takbeeratul Ahraam (Allah ho-Akbar). After Sura Fatiha recite the following Sura:

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Praise the name of thy Lord the Most High, (1) Who createth, then disposeth; (2) Who measureth, then guideth; (3) Who bringeth forth the pasturage, (4) Then turneth it to russet stubble. (5) We shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget (6) Save that which Allah willeth. Lo! He knoweth the disclosed and that which still is hidden; (7) And We shall ease thy way unto the state of ease. (8) Therefor remind (men), for of use is the reminder. (9) He will heed who feareth, (10) But the most hapless will flout it, (11) He who will be flung to the great Fire (12) Wherein he will neither die nor live. (13) He is successful who groweth, (14) And remembereth the name of his Lord, so prayeth, (15) But ye prefer the life of the world (16) Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting. (17) Lo! This is in the former scrolls. (18) The Books of Abraham and Moses. (19)﴿

After this Sura, the following special Dua-e-Qunoot is recited:

alla humma ahlal kibriyaai
wal azamati wa ahlal joodi wal jabaroot
wa ahlal afwi war rahmati
wa ahlat taqwaa wal maghfirah
as-aluka bihaqqi haazal
yawmil lazi ja-altahu lil muslimeena eidan
wa li muhammadin sallallaahu alayhi wa aalihee
zukhran wa sharafan wa karamatan wa mazeedaa
an tu salli ala muhammadin wa aali muhammad
wa an tudkhilani fee kulli khayrin
adkhalta feehi muhammadan wa aali muhammad
wa an tukhrijani min kulli sooo-in
akhrajta minhu muhammadan wa aali muhammad
salawaatuka alayhi wa alayhim
allaahumma innee as-aluka khayra
maa sa-aluka bihi ibaadukas saalihoon
wa a-oozubeka mimmas ta-aaza
minhu ibaadukal mukhlisoon

After this recite the Takbeer again (Allah ho-Akbar) and again raise the hands for the same Dua-e-Qunoot.. In the same manner, recite the Takbeer and the Dua-e

-Qunoot 5 times in total. Follow this up with one Rukoo and two Sajdas and the rise up for the second Rakaat.

In the second Rakaat, after Sura Fatiha, recite the following Suras:br>

IIn the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

By the sun and his brightness, (1) And the moon when she followeth him, (2) And the day when it revealeth him, (3) And the night when it enshroudeth him, (4) And the heaven and Him Who built it, (5) And the earth and Him Who spread it, (6) And a soul and Him Who perfected it (7) And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. (8) He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, (9) And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. (10) (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, (11) When the basest of them broke forth (12) And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! (13) But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). (14) He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). (15)﴿

This will be followed by the same Takbeer and Dua-e-Qunoot stated above. This Takbeer and Dua-e-Qunoot will be recited 4 times in total in the second Rakat.

Finally complete the Prayer by offering one Rukoo and two Sajdas and Tashahud and Salam.
