Tubectomy & Vasectomy

Q: I would like to know if vasectomy and tubectomy is permissible in Islam as a mode of family planning.

A: There is no objection in doing vasectomy if it was for a reasonable reason, safe (with no harm), and would not entail the prohibited (haram) touching of, or looking at, the private parts. Regarding tubectomy the same would be applied in addition to obtaining the husband's permission.
