In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Jerusalem's Position and its Right
Occasion: Jerusalem’s Universal Day
The deceased Authority of Muslims during the absence of Imam Al-Mahdi (May God hasten his honorable revelation) Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) declared the last Friday of Ramadan to be Jerusalem’s Universal Day. His words show Jerusalem’s importance in the past, present, and future, which we are going to shed the light on in the following article.
Jerusalem in the History of the Prophets
It is known that The Sacred Mosque [in Makka] was the first mosque raised on earth, a fact revealed by Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his Household) when answering Abou Thar’s question about the first mosque raised on earth. “It was Al-Aksa [The Farthest] Mosque” was the answer God’s prophet (peace be upon him and his Household) to Abou Thar’s inquiry about the mosque raised next to The Sacred Mosque. Then Abou Thar wanted to know the duration of the period separating the building of The Sacred Mosque and Al-Aksa Mosque [in Jerusalem], and The Prophet (peace be upon him and his Household) said, “It was fourty years.”
This narrative reflects the great position of Al-Aksa Mosque due to its being the second mosque raised on earth. Throughout history, the prophets of The Most High God (peace be upon them) inhabited Al-Aksa Mosque and performed their prayers there; it is related that it was raised by the prophets (peace be upon them) and that they prayed in every spot of it.
Al-Aksa Mosque and Its Blessings
The Most High God blessed Al-Aksa Mosque and its surroundings even ﴾…the neighborhood whereof We have blessed…﴿. Praying in it leads to the bestowal of The Most High God’s blessings; The Prophet (peace be upon him and his Household) said, “Go to it [Al-Aksa Mosque] and pray there, for the one prayer in it is equivalent to a thousand one in any other mosque.”
The honor of this holy mosque is testified when Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his Household), having been asked about him who is unable to go to it, said, “Let him present it with oil to enlighten it, for he who offers anything to it is like him who prays in it.”
Moreover, dying in Al-Aksa Mosque is a means to attain its blessings; The Noblest Prophet (peace be upon him and his Household) said, “He who died in Al-Aksa Mosque as if died in the sky.”
The Position of Al-Aksa Mosque in the Hereafter
Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his Household) was asked to give the legal opinion as regards Al-Aksa Mosque, so he (peace be upon him and his Household) said, “It is the land of grouping and resurrection,” and in another narrative “Let him who wants to look at a spot from heaven to look at Al-Aksa Mosque.”
Jerusalem during the Rise of Islam
The importance of Al-Aksa Mosque in Islam is manifested when The Most High God chose it to be the first Kibla [niche] towards which the Muslims turn their faces in prayer and when The Most High and Blessed God took The Master of Humans Mohammad (peace upon him and his Household) for a journey by night, about which we read in The Noble Qur’an: ﴾Glorified be He [Allah] Who took His slave [Prophet Mohammad] for a journey by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haram [The Sacred Mosque] to the Farthest Mosque [Al-Aksa Mosque]…﴿.
In this mosque, The Most High and Glorified God showed the honored position of The Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him and his Household), for he (God’s prayers bestowed upon him and his Household) led the company prayer of The Most High God’s prophets and great angels. Through this central meeting of The Most High God’s prophets and angels led by The Concluding Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his Household), Jerusalem has become, as Hezbollah’s General Secretary Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah (May God protect him) states it, The Capital of the Sky.
Al-Aksa Mosque as Imam Al-Mahdi’s (peace be upon him) House and Oratory
Noble Jerusalem is one of the major stations in the movement of The Master of This Time (May God hasten his honorable revelation) since Imam Al-Mahdi (God’s peace be upon him) is going to live in it. It is related by Abou Saeed Al-Khadri that Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his Household) said, “From my nation will emerge a man who is going to be a spokesman of my teachings, for whose sake The Most High and Blessed God is going to let down the rain from the sky and take out the riches of the land, and by means of whom justice and equity will be spread on earth as injustice and oppression were spread… And he is going to live in Al-Aksa Mosque.” In this glorified place, Sayyed Al-Messiah [Christ] (peace be upon him) will come down to pray behind The Master of this time (peace be upon him), thus declaring by this his and his followers’ loyalty to Imam Al-Mahdi’s (May God hasten his honorable revelation) leadership.
As a preparation for that waited-for day [when Imam Al-Mahdi (May God hasten his honorable revelation) appears], Imam Al-Khomeini (May God be gracious to him) raised the case of Jerusalem to be the title of the weakened’s war against the supercilious, especially after the horrible Zionist violations of the Muslim people in Palestine and of Al-Aksa Mosque which the Zionists occupied, burnt, caused a mess in its contents, played in it and under its dome with entertaining machines, and tried more than once to destroy it and establish their pretended temple in its place.
Imam Al-Khomeini (May God be gracious to him) declared the last Friday of Ramadan to be Jerusalem’s Universal Day and regarded it to be “…the day of Islam…the day of reviving Islam…the day in which the truth is distinguished from the falsehood…the day in which the hypocrite and the supercilious are recognized…and the day in which the weakened face the supercilious…”
And he (May God be gracious to him) considered him who does not share in celebrating Jerusalem’s Day to be opposing Islam and agreeing with America and Israel. Therefore, Imam Al-Khomeini (May God be gracious to him) wanted this day to be that of the Muslims’ awareness and their movement to uproot the germ of corruption i.e. Israel from existence. This is stated by our leader Imam Al-Khamenei (May God protect him), as a continuation of what our deceased Imam (May his secret be sacred) started, “Jerusalem’s Day is the day of the continuing mobilization of the crowds to wipe out this dark spot from the map of the Islamic world.”
May God write us among those who achieve Islam’s objectives that were manifested in our leader’s call to wipe Israel from existence.
All praise is due to God, the Lord of the Worlds.
