The Etiquettes of the Mosque

God said in the Holy Quran: And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone﴿

It was narrated the following: "The one who walks to reach the mosque in order to pray the congregational prayer, in each step he will be gaining seventy thousands reward, and he will be promoting to higher steps; and if he was dead while he was in his way to the mosque, God will authorize for him seventy thousands angel who visit him and stay with him in the tomb, and stay asking God to forgive him till the day of resurrection."

Besides, it was mentioned about Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his household) his saying: "O Aba thar, during the time that you will be sitting in the mosque, in each breath you breath it, God give you a degree in the heaven, and ten rewards, while ten sins will be effaced, and the angels will bless him."

Imam Al-Sadik (A.S.) said: "The mosques complained to God Almighty about the ones who don't go to perform prayers in it and they are closed to it, after that God revealed to it: "with my glory and loftiness, I will not accept any prayer from them and I will not treat them as the others; besides, they will not obtain My mercy and they won't be close to me in my heaven".

Some of the mosque's etiquettes:

1- To be perfumed and to wear a neat, tidy, and new clothes before entering to the mosque and we should also perfume the mosque.

2- To March quietly and carefully: When you reach the mosque's gate, you should put in mind that this is God's house, and God Almighty is able to do any thing and He know everything about you, so confess that you are weak, poor and be loyal in your intention and tell Him whatever you want from your heart.

3- To be busy in praising God and supplicating Him while marching to the mosque; enter to the mosque with the right leg, but while going out, with the left one.

4- Aba Thar narrated: … I raised a question to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his household) about how we can make the mosques inhabited, he replied: in the mosque, the voices must be silent, oppression should be done, people shouldn't neither buy nor sell, and drivel shouldn't take place as long as you are in it, and if you didn't quit on doing these, in the day of resurrection, don't blame others except yourself.

5- Be ready to prayer before its time, in which you can perform ablution and prepare the place of praying. Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his household) said: "while sitting in the mosque waiting for the time of prayers to be is a worship even if you were doing nothing; and he was asked, then what is the thing that annul this, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his household) replied: the thing that annul this is the backbiting".

6- It is considered recommendable to be the first one who enters to the mosque and the last who leaves it.

7- To salute the people who are sitting in the mosque.

8- To perform the prayer congregational not by yourself.

9- When you enter to the mosque, it is considered recommendable to pray two prostrations as a greeting for the mosque.

10- To seek to let peace spread, to quit oppression, give the people their rights, and to give a serious attention for trying to pure yourself from sins. It was related to prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his household) that he said: "God revealed to me to tell people not to enter any of His houses before giving the people their rights , and if they do as such, I will be cursing them while they are praying until they give the people their rights, after that I will be his ear that he hears by, his eyes that he sees through, and he will be one of my guardians and patrons, in addition he will be my neighbor closely to the prophets, the saints, and martyrs in the heaven".

11- The prayers must do there best to let the tone of the mosque to be a guidance for people especially for those who are coming to ask for knowledge and guidance and repentance; for the mosque is considered the most important cultural and educational institution in which the Prophet (peace be upon him and his household) used to teach people in the mosque and after each prayer, he used to deliver a speech.

12- To clean the mosque and not to throw any dirt in it. Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his household) said: it is written in the Torah: "My houses on earth are the mosques, so blesses is for the one who purify him self in his house and visits me in My house, since the visitor will gain the dignity of the one he is visiting, so preach the ones who are marching at night to the mosques that in the day of resurrection their lights will be glaring".

Eventually, all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
