The Charity Ring

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

The Charity Ring

Occasion: The Commander of the Faithful (A.S.) gives his ring as Charity while Praying

We congratulate Imam Al-Mahdi (may God hasten his appearance) and his custodian in his absence (God keep him) and all the believers and spatially the strugglers with this great occasion when the Commander of the Faithful (A.S.) gave his ring as a charity while he was praying on the 24th of Dhu al-Hijjah. For this occasion, God be he exalted mentioned the custodianship verse from: (al-Maaida: 55-56) only Allah is your vali and his messenger and those who believe, those who keep up prayers and pay the poor-rate while they bow * and whoever takes Allah and his messenger and those who believe for a guardian then surely the party of Allah are they that shall be triumphant﴿.

And the way God sent his verse wanted to tell people that custodianship among three; God, his prophet, and the ones who believe in God and his prophet (peace be upon them). Where as God honored the one who give charity and He mentioned him in plural and not only that but also be he exalted honored the custodian who follow the Commander of Faithful after following God and his prophet, be he exalted called them ''Hezbollah'' and described them as ''the victors''.

The Story of the Verse

Many stories agreed that these mentioned verses were descended for the Commander of the Faithful Ali Ben Abi-Talib (A.S.) after he gave his ring as charity and the prophet's sustains quoted this charity incident, and one of the important sustains was Abo Zar Al-Gaffary who insisted on transmitting this blessed incident since he believe that it is one of the great values and parts of the Islamic various topics that God wanted it to be eternal just as the eternity of the Holy Quran.

In addition, he mentioned (may God accept his praise) that one day he prayed with the prophet (peace be upon him and his household) the middle pray. While they were praying, a beggar came to the mosque and asked for money but no one gave him. Then the beggar raised his hands to the sky and said: ''God you can see that I asked for money in your prophet's mosque, but no one gave me a thing''. At that time Imam Ali (A.S.) was bowing dawn he set the beggar a sign with his right smallest finger and he was wearing a ring in this finger. The asker came and took that ring from the smallest finger. The prophet (peace be upon him and his household) saw that. When he finished praying, he raised his head toward the sky and said: O God, Moussa had asked you saying: O, my Lord! Expand my breast* and make my affair easy to me* and loose the knot from my tongue* (that) they may understand my word * and give to me an aider from my family * Haroun, my brother * strengthen my back by him*and associate him (with me)in my affair﴿ (Taa-haa: 25-32).

Then, God you sent him articulated Quran telling him: "we will strengthen your back by your brother and we will give you authority, so no one can reach you with our verse, O God and I am your prophet Mohammad, God expand my breast, and make my affair easy to me and choose my successor from my family, let him be Ali and strengthen my back by him﴿.

Abo Zar has also added: when the prophet (peace be upon him and his household) finished asking God the Almighty asked Gabriel to tell the prophet to read: only Allah is your vali and his messenger and those who believe, those who keep up prayers and pay the poor-rate while they bow * and whoever takes Allah and his messenger and those who believe for a guardian then surely the party of Allah are they that shall be triumphant﴿ (Al-Maaida: 55-56).

The importance of charity

The custodianship verse which was descended when the Commander of Faithful (A.S.) gave his ring as charity show a great value for charity in Islam. Also, there is a lot of discourse that expresses its importance for God be he exalted. Also as the prophet (peace be upon him and his household) confirmed that the charity lay dawn in God's hand before it lay dawn at the one who is taking the charity. Also it decreases God's anger and prevent scourge. Moreover it is also as the prophet said (peace be upon him and his household) mentioned it increases the subsistence, it is the cure for the sick ones, and a mercy for the death ones.

It has venerable values as Imam Al-Sadek (A.S.) said: "the charity prevents bad death and it prevents seventy kind of scourge. Also he mentioned about charity: ''the ground of the doom is made up of fire with no shadow only the believer who paid charity his charity is going to be his shadow and it will protect him from the fire flame."

Charity among values and integrity

The custodianship verse was descended after the Commander of Faithful gave his ring as charity in order to indicate the charity's status. But the real value and status is not just for this act, but for the believable and spiritual background which stimulated the Imam to give his ring as a charity; and this which some of the ones who lived with the Prophet and was surprised with the descended of the custodian verse, and the reason for that is the giving of Imam Ali the ring as a charity, and he said: I've gave 40 rings as a charity while I was praying, for me to have a verse talks about me as the commander of the faithful had. At the same time these people couldn't recognize that God doesn't look at the quantity of the charity but He seek for the honesty which it has been done for satisfying God to whom be ascribed all perfection and majesty.

Eventually, all praises is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
