The Mosque and the Blessed Month

Allah preferred certain spots on earth and called them His houses and considered their visitors as His. In the divine Hadith, “My houses on earth are mosques. Blessed be a servant of Allah who purifies himself in a house of Allah, then visited me at my house. The entertainer should dignify the visitor.”

Images of Allah’s Hospitality

1. Dignifying his visitors at his house begins as of setting off to the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his household) says, “Whoever strolls to a mosque of Allah shall be rewarded with granting him ten virtues, bolting tens sins and uplifting him for ten levels in return for each step he takes until he comes back home.”

2. Allah’s divine hospitality continues as for sitting in the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his household) tells Abou Zar, “Allah shall give you an additional level in paradise and angels shall pray on you for every breath you take in there...”

3. Such divine hospitality elevates as you pray in the mosque so that the mosque shall be a good witness in the Day of Judgment. Imam Al Sadek (peace be upon him and his household) says, “Once at mosque, pray in different spots for each shall testify for the prayer in the Doomsday.”

The Role of the Mosque

Some of the great reward discussed hereinabove are due to the great role of the mosque in the life of man and community. In fact, the mosque is:

1- House of Qur’an: The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him and his household) says, “Mosques were only built for Qur’an.”

2- The House of Prayers: Imam Al Sadek (peace be upon him and his household) says, “Come to mosques: they are the houses of Allah on earth … so pray immensely there.”

3- House of Knowledge: The Great Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his household) also said, “He whoever goes to the mosque and he is after learning or teaching shall have the same reward as full Hajj (pilgrimage).”

4- House of Fraternity: Imam Al Sadek (peace be upon him and his household) says, “A frequent visitor to the mosque does not come back less than one of three things (among these is) a brother that benefits from…”

5- House of Political Consciousness: Right from the mosque, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his household) proliferated political perception in the spirits of Muslims. Imam Khomeini, May God Bless His Soul, also said, “The mosque is the center of political meetings.”

6- The House of Defending Muslims: Muslims used to set off from the mosque under the command of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his household) to defend Islam. About the same, Imam Khomeini, May God Bless His Soul, also said, “Mosque is one of the trenches to defend Islam and the niche is place for war.

As a result, it is the point for the Mujahideen who defend Islam to set off from and who are paving the way for Imam Mahdi. Many martyrs graduated from mosques after they had built mosques within their hearts.

This is why Imam Khomeini, May his secret be sacred, underscored the importance of mosques and he used to say, “Keeping mosques is one of the elements on which the presence of Islam depends today,” and he added saying “Do not desert the mosques: it is a responsibility with which you are charged.”
