Amount of Dowry in Shari‘ah

Q: Is there a determined amount for mahr in shari‘ah? How much is the mustahabb amount in the contemporary time?

A: It has no Maximum or minimum limit. Anyhow, it is mustahabb that it does not exceed sunnah mahr which equals 500 silver dirham [each dirham weighs 2.52 gm.].
