The sun of the existence of Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) arose from the lap of his mother Umm-e-Farwah on the 17th of Rabiul Awal, 83rd year Hijrah, in the city of Madina. Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq (AS) has the same birth date as that of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his household). Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) has three titles; they are Al-Sadiq, Al-Fadil and At-Tahir. His father Imam Muhammad Baqir (AS) was much happy and pleased by the birth of his son.
Imam Ja’far Sadiq is the 6th Imam of shi’ites and his Kunyet (title) is "Abu-Abdollah". He was born in Medina in 73 A.H and his death was in Shawwal 148 A.H.
His grave is in Baqi’ Cemetery by the grave of his father "Imam Mohammad Baqir".
His most famous title was "Sadiq" because he never spokes unless the truth. As Prophet Mohammad stated (about him): "He was the Right word and the messenger of truth". Also he had several titles such as "Fazil", "Tahir", and "Sabir".
Imam Sadiq (A.S.) was contemporary with some of the Abbasids and Umayyads caliphates e.g.
Hashem Ibn-e Abdulmalik (105 – 125 A.H)
Marwan Ibn-e Mohammad (126 – 132 A.H)
Abu Ja’far or Mansoor Davaniqi (137 – 158 A.H)
Imam (A.S.) was martyred in 148 A.H, at the age of 65 and his Imamate period was 34 years. As it is said he was poisoned by the Medina’s governor, Ja’far Ibn-e Soleyman.
