When you read the lives of the infallible imams of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them), you find that the prominent point in their lives was their devotedness to Allah and their watching the night in worshipping, hymning, and reciting the Qur'an.

Abu Firas al-Hamadani, the poet, compares between the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) and the Abbasids by saying,

“Recitation (of the Qur'an) is heard in their houses until dawn, and in your houses music and singing.”

At that age, people did not see a worshipper, devout, pious one like Imam al-Hadi (a.s.). He offered all recommended worships (nafila). In the third rak’a of the nafila of Maghrib (sunset) he recited the sura of al-Hamd (1) and the beginning of the sura of al-Hadid (57) until the end of the six verse, and in the fourth rak’a he recited the sura of al-Hamd and the sura of al-Hujurat (49).1 Another nafila of two rak’as was said he offered that he recited in the first rak’a the sura of al-Hamd and the sura of Yasin (36), and in the second rak’a he recited the sura of al-Hamd and the sura of ar-Rahman (55).2
