The Character of Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred)
A lot has been said about Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred), yet it is
still early for us and for the universal analysts to exactly and completely know
this great Imam. He is a great character which is, next to those of prophets and
authorities, rarely matchable because such characters emerge in specific stages
of history; carry out huge and great accomplishments; illuminate in the sky like
the flash with their light reaching everywhere in the space; and then pass away.
In addition to his revolutionary leadership, Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be
sacred) was a jurisprudent and a reference for imitation. He, like the prophets,
shows you, through his existence, the religion, the politics, the revolution,
God, and the nation all at once. And his revolution calls to the minds the
revolutions of the divine prophets.
Here we mention the most important traits with which his character and deeds
were characterized.
1- Carrying Out the Religious Responsibilities
The basic point on the light of which Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be
sacred) works is carrying out the religious responsibility and melting in the
Divine Will. He used to care for nothing rather than this point, and he clearly
referred to this in his speech when the war with Iraq came to a stop.
2- Clearness of Vision
The Imam (May his secret be sacred) was wise in the real meaning of the
word, wisdom in its real meaning which is mentioned in the Saying of The Most
High God:
﴾And indeed We bestowed upon Lukman Al-Hikma (i.e. wisdom and
religious understanding, etc.)…﴿1
The Most High God had endowed him with an insight through which he used to
perceive certain issues which the others could not realize whereas he used to
catch them with a quick look. Accordingly, his words used to flow from such a
heart and to result from such wisdom, and his letter to Ghorbatshof serves as a
clear example about this.
3- Determination and Will
The reverent Imam (May his secret be sacred) neither hesitated for even one
moment as regards walking on the path of God nor spared even one percent of his
might from employing it in order to cover this path. With all his might and at
every moment in his life, he was persistent in his serious attempt to reach that
sublime and divine aim. And God helped him to do so!
4- The Voice of the Oppressed and the Weakened
The Islamic Revolution started in this time due to the high and powerful and
immortal cry which Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) issued. The cry
of the jurisprudent and the sage of this time rose loud from the heart of this
nation to the weakened nations whose breaths had been subsided and whose cries
had been imprisoned in their breasts. The moan of the oppressed had continued to
be imprisoned in their thirsty throats. Yet, only one time did that cry rise,
thus tearing the veil of oppression, harbingering with the approach of the
morning of emancipation and freedom, and embracing the cases of all the weakened
from Iran to Lebanon to Palestine to…
The Impacts of the Revolution of Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred)
Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) did many accomplishments whose
hugeness is in accordance to the greatness of The Imam (May his secret be
sacred) himself. If the thinkers and the analysts meet in order to jot down a
list including the accomplishments which The Imam did, this list will for sure
include double and double the examples which we are going to mention herein:
First: Revival of Islam
During the last two centuries, the tyrant powers had been laboriously
attempting at making Islam forgotten. And since the very first days of
colonialism and later on, huge sums of money were spent in order to move Islam
aside from the field of life in the first place and from the minds and the
individual conduct of the people in the second place. This is so because they
knew that Islam is the greatest obstacle in the way of the continuation of the
tyrant great powers’ looting of the Muslims and dominating their interests and
wealth.
Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) brought Islam back to the thoughts,
minds, individual conduct, and universal field; thus, he revived Islam.
Second: Proof of the Concept of ‘Neither Eastern nor Western’
All the minds were occupied by the theory which stated that we had to rely
either on the east or on the west and that we had to eat either the bread of the
eastern and praise them or that of the western and praise them. Nobody could
imagine that a nation would be able to say, “No” to both the east and the west,
to resist, to remain firm in front of them, and to steadfast its feet one day
after another. However, The Imam (May his secret be sacred) proved the
probability of this.
Third: Revival of Self Confidence
The dictator governments which had consecutively governed our country had
attempted for long years at turning our nation into a disgraceful, submitting,
and giving up nation. These foreign powers had humiliated this nation and
degraded it. In this frame, therefore, are poured all the actions and deeds
performed by the English, Russians, Americans, and some European governments.
Our people believed all of that and consequently lost self confidence. Our
people believed that it had neither efficiency nor capacity to do great
accomplishments; that it could not carry out the mission of building and
construction; that it could not present any innovation; and that others should
govern it.
When Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) came, he restored to the Muslim
peoples their self confidence and enlivened their spirit. And now our nation
fears not the east’s and the west’s collaboration, cooperation, and conspiracy.
It no more feels weakness in front of them. And our youths feel that they are
capable of building their country.
Fourth: The Emergence of the Islamic Nation on the Universal Stage
Previously, the Islamic nation was known by nothing remarkable on the
universal level, for it was either not in circulation or not seriously regarded.
While nowadays, the Muslims, whether in the farthest regions of Asia, middle of
Africa, the entire Middle East, Europe, or America, feel that they are part of a
big universal society i.e. they are a part of the Islamic nation. This feeling
of belongingness was established in this world by Imam Al-Khomeini (May his
secret be sacred), and it represents the biggest bayonet raised in the face of
the tyrant powers for the sake of defending the Islamic nations.
Fifth: Overthrowing the Hireling Regime
Removing the Shahenshahi regime and wiping out the monarchial regime from
Iran is considered to be one of the greatest accomplishments that can be
imagined in the Gulf Region and the Middle East. This is so because Iran had
previously been a castle for the colonialists, yet that castle fell down on the
hands of His Eminence Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred).
Sixth: Establishment of the Islamic Government
It had never come to the minds of the Muslims and the non Muslims around the
world that a political and social regime may be established on the basis of a
religion and, what is more, on the basis of Islam.
This in fact was a rosy dream tickling the lids of the simple naive Muslims who
had never imagined that it might come true on one day. Then, The Imam (May his
secret be sacred) transformed that imaginary dream into a real entity actually
existing. This, therefore, was just as a miracle.
Seventh: Restoring the Spirit of Honor to the Muslims
Islam became not only the object of concern for the researches and analyses in
the universities, societies, and people’s life; but also the Muslims all over
the world began to feel with honor as a result of the revolution of The Imam
(May his secret be sacred).
We were, in fact, dead, yet The Imam (May his secret be sacred) revived us. We
were astray, yet The Imam (May his secret be sacred) showed us the way. We were
negligent of the great roles of the Muslim human being, yet The Imam (May his
secret be sacred) awoke us and guided us to the right path by holding our hand
and by encouraging us to move forward, and he was at the head of the procession.

The Characteristics of the Guardian
When The Most High God appoints The Prophet or the Impeccable Imam as a guardian
for the people because he is impeccable, this means that the characteristics of
knowledge, asceticism, wisdom, courage, and fatherhood are embodied at their
utmost in the impeccable guardian. When the impeccable guardian is absent, we
have to look for these very characteristics in the person who is more
characterized by them than the others i.e. who is jurisprudent and just in
addition to be avoiding of what is forbidden, abstaining from this life,
courageous, experienced, wise, rational, and capable of management throughout
his life.
Throughout our history, there have been such jurisprudents; in fact, no time has
been void of such a jurisprudent who carries the trust and preserves it in
accordance to the period which he lives in. This was the case till The Most
Glorified and Reverent God’s Will was that the great man of this time Imam
Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred), along the line of jurisprudents and
references, would achieve the great historical victory. This led to the
emergence of the character of Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) which
filled the eyes and the minds and the hearts to the extent that some of us used
to believe that our history had not witnessed such great jurisprudents. In fact,
our history did witness very great jurisprudents, yet their conditions and
circumstances were different…
Whatever, Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) came in this time and we
perceived him to be the man below The Impeccable Imam (God’s peace bestowed upon
him) in whom these [just mentioned] characteristics were gathered: knowledge,
courage, loyalty, asceticism, and capacity of management. And after all these
long centuries and after the oppression which had been of no beginning and no
end, we, thanks to God, could, by the Will of The Most High and Glorified God,
establish in this century a state for Mohammad’s Household (God’s peace bestowed
upon them) on the hands of Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred).
This state continued, day after day, increasing in honor and power. Then, Imam
Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) passed away. We had a new authority who
was diagnosed and named by The Imam himself (May his secret be sacred). Imam
Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) is the one who praised the name of Sayyed
Al-Khaminaei (May God lengthen his presence among us), so The Sayyed The Leader
was chosen as our authority…
Brothers and sisters! We and all the Muslims around the world have an authority.
If the majority of the Muslims do not want to obey him, then this will be their
own problem. Previously, many people did not obey The Prophet (God’s prayers and
peace bestowed upon him and his Household) and the Impeccable Imam (God’s peace
bestowed upon him), yet this does not mean that the Imam is not an Imam or that
the Prophet is not a prophet.
We have an authority who is the representative of Imam Al-Mahdi (May God hasten
his honorable revelation) whom we must obey. And we have known by experience his
purity, honesty, and piety in addition to his courage, power, wisdom, capacity
of management, and rationality at the same time: He challenges America, the
European Union, and all the fleets which fill the gulf.
The Most High God bestowed upon us such a unique man and such an exceptional
personality. If we search all our Hawzas and Islamic countries, we will not be
able to find even one of the Shiite jurisprudents in whom gather this collection
and this level of lofty characteristics which gather in His Eminence The Leader
Al-Khaminaei (May God lengthen his presence among us) as a leader and as an
authority.
If we want to win the hereafter, then it is with our authority the
representative of Imam Al-Houjja Al-Mahdi (May God lengthen his presence among
us). And I add. If we want the honor and grace and dignity of this life, we will
not be able to attain them but with the authority. Even this big resistance
which we take care of and which is the only thing in this Arabic world with
which we raise our heads and on which we proud ourselves: Had it not been for a
man named Rohoullah Al-Mousawi Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred), it [The
Islamic Resistance] would have not existed in Lebanon. And next to him, had it
not been for a man named Ali Al-Housseini Al-Khaminaei, the resistance would not
have gone on.
