It is ascribed to Imam Al-Sadik (God’s peace bestowed upon him) that he said, “The believer is the brother of the believer. They are like the one body: Once an organ complains of any pain, this pain is felt in the whole of the body. And their souls are from one soul.”

Islam did not consider the society to be scattered and torn classes with no bond or convent among them. In addition, it did not want the members of the society to feel frustration and carelessness towards each other. On the contrary, it wanted the society to be cohesive, strong with its members initiating to help each other, present in all the fields, active, and leading…

His Eminence Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) wanted the flake of this spirit to enkindle and to become more blazing by means of the machinery of the general mobilization.

Mobilization, in fact, is the active and effective public presence in a cohesive and strong manner which accomplishes the interests of the society and which confronts the dangers that are threatening the nations. In addition, the mobilization is made up of all the people with all their classes and with all the men and the women.

Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) had his special view towards the mobilization and towards its members. He (May his secret be sacred) used to consider himself one of the members of the mobilization; and he used to hope to be grouped with them in the hereafter. He (May his secret be sacred) used to say, “I ask God to group me with my mobilizing sons because what I am proud of in this life is that I am a mobilizationer.”

This mobilization considers the pivot of its movement to be the paving for the appearance of The Master of This Time Imam Al-Houjja Al-Mahdi (May God hasten his honorable revelation). It is related that God’s prophet (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) said, “People from the east will get out, and they will pave for the reign of Al-Mahdi.” It is also ascribed to Imam Mohammad Al-Baker (God’s peace bestowed upon him) that he said, “I see that a people will get out in the east in order to ask for their right, yet it will not be given to them; then they will ask for it, yet it will not be given to them. When they perceive this, they will take out their swords. Then, they will be given what they asked, yet they will not accept it until they rise and will not hand it but to your Master [i.e. Imam Al-Houjja Al-Mahdi (May God hasten his honorable revelation)]. The ones who will be killed from them will be martyrs.”

The Spirit and Characteristics of the Mobilizationers

The Most High God says, Verily those who say, “Our Lord is Allah (Alone),” and they straightened, on them the angels will descend (at the time of their death) (saying): “Fear not, nor grieve! But receive the glad tidings of Paradise which you have been promised” * “We have been your friends in the life of this world and are (so) in the hereafter. Therein you shall have (all) that your inner selves desire, and therein you shall have (all) for which you ask.﴿1

Honesty is the major merit that summarizes the path, movement, and characteristics of the members of the mobilization. This honesty makes God take care of them in this life! And is there anything but winning and success in what The Most High God takes care of?! In addition, they will, in the hereafter, have whatever their souls yearn for and whatever they wish.

Here we are going to refer to some detailed characteristics that must be available in the mobilization:

1- Love and Loyalty to God
The Noble Qur'an relates about this characteristic in the Saying of The Most High God: O you who believe! Whoever from among you turns back from his religion (Islam), Allah will bring people whom He will love and they will love Him…﴿2

The major distinguishing attribute of those working people whom The Most High God helps to be on the path of His guidance is that they love The Most High God and that God loves them too.

When talking about the mobilization and its youths, Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) said, “The mobilization is the good strong fruitful tree from whose braches diffuse the odor of the spirit of reunion, the softness of sureness, and the talk of the divine love.”

This love can be adjoined to none but to the loyalty to The Most High God Who preserves the human being during the life of trials. The Most High God says about Satan, (Iblis [Satan]) said, “By Your Might, then I will surely mislead them all * Except Your chosen slaves amongst them (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic monotheism)”﴿3

2- Humbleness and Sternness
These two characteristics are always with the believer. This is so because he is humble with the believers and meets them with mercy and affection and offering whereas he is stern and harsh with the enemies. The Most High God says, ?…humble towards the believers, stern towards the disbelievers…?4 The Most High God also says, ?Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers and merciful among themselves…?5

3- Awareness and Wakefulness
Obscurity is dangerous for the Muslim. When the truth is confused with the falsehood, the human being may perform bad deeds while he is conceiving that he is doing good. Awareness and wakefulness, therefore, preserves the human being and prevents him from falling into obscurities. It is related to The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) that he said, “Wakefulness in the religion is a blessing for the one upon whom it is bestowed.” It is also ascribed to him that he (God’s peace bestowed upon him) said, “Obscurity was called so because the truth becomes obscure. As regards the authorities of God, their light is the certainty and their guide is the path of guidance. As regards the enemies of God, their call is the loss, and their guide is blindness.”6

Moreover, obscurity makes the human being fall in ordeals. It is related that The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) said, “Beware of obscurity, for it paves for ordeal.”7 In order to get rid of it, the believer must have two characteristics. The first one is the knowledge about the time, for it is ascribed to The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) that he said, “The one who knows his time will not be attacked by doubts.”8 The second characteristic is discernment, for it is ascribed to God’s prophet (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “The believer is shrewd and discerning.”

In addition, the believer must always take into consideration that he is pursued and must always remember the narrative ascribed to The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) in which he said, “He who sleeps will have [the others] still watching him [i.e. not asleep].”9

4- Vitality and Presence
It is related to The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) that he said, “Avoid the grudge of the hearts, the spat of the breasts, the dispute of the souls, the weakness of the hands; then, you will succeed in your issues.”10

5- Trust in God
Trust in God is the real credit of the believer because it represents the association to the Original Source of every good and to the Owner of the closets of the earth and the sky, the association to Who promised to be with the one who trusts Him. The Most High God says, …And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (of every difficulty) * And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him…﴿11

It is as well ascribed to God’s prophet (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “Let him who likes to be the strongest one among the people to trust God.”12

6- Altruism
Altruism is one of the great morals that The Noble Qur'an taught to us: ...and give them (emigrants) preference over themselves, even though they were in need of that. And whosoever is saved from his covetousness, such are they who will be the successful﴿.13 This was testified by the school of Karbalaa through the loyal companions of Imam Abou Abdullah Al-Houssein (God’s peace bestowed upon him) who preferred him to their own selves. It is ascribed to The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) that he said, “The best believers are those who best offer from their selves, households, and money.”14

7- Sense of Honor
It is also from the major characteristics that are affirmed by the narrative which is ascribed to Imam Al-Hassan Al-Moujtaba (God’s peace bestowed upon him) when he was asked about the sense of honor. He (God’s peace bestowed upon him) answered, “It is the perseverance of the religion, the fortification of the soul, flexibility, taking care of the trust, paying the rights, and the endearment to the people.”15

8- Courage
It is related to God’s prophet (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “Blessed be he who is occupied with fear of God and not with the fear of the people.”16

From the Roles of the Mobilization

The obvious question that rises before us is related to the aims of mobilization and to its missions and role that it must carry out. The Impeccables (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon them) pointed out to several major roles which are considered to be major titles for the direction of the mobilization and major aims for the mobilizationers. These roles can be summarized in the following:

1- Taking Care of the Muslims’ Affairs
It is ascribed to God’s prophet (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “He who doesn’t care for the Muslims’ affairs is not a Muslim.”

2- Advising Others
It is ascribed to God’s prophet (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “He who does not since the morning till the evening be occupied with advising [the people] to God, His prophet, His Book, His authority, and all the Muslims is not considered to be one of them.”

3- Doing Good to All the People
It is also ascribed to God’s prophet (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “The beginning of reason next to the belief in God is humoring the people and doing good to every pious and dissolute one.” It is also ascribed to him (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “The mankind are the dependents of God. And the one who is most liked by God is the one who benefits the dependents of God and who makes any household happy.”

4- Assisting the Oppressed
It is ascribed to The Noblest Prophet (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “He who takes the right of the oppressed from the oppressor is going to accompany me in the Heaven.”

5- Helping and Defending the Harmed
It is ascribed to The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) that he said, “He who defends the Muslims from an adversity of water, an adversity of fire, or an adversity of a tyrant enemy will have God forgiving him for his sin.” It is also related in a narrative ascribed to The Concluding Prophet Mohammad bin Abdullah (God’s prayers and peace bestowed upon him and his Household) that he said, “Heaven is granted to him who defends a Muslim from an adversity of water or [that of] fire.”

6- Calling the People to the Values
The Most High God says, Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Maarouf (i.e. Islamic monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful.﴿17

It is related that Prophet Dawoud [David] (God’s peace bestowed upon him and upon our Prophet and his Household) went out alone to the desert. Then The Most High and Glorified God revealed to him, “O Dawoud! Why are you so alone?” He (God’s peace bestowed upon him and upon our Prophet and his Household) answered, “O God! My yearning to meeting You has become so strong to the extent that it turned me away from Your mankind!” At that, The Most Glorious and Reverent God revealed to him, “Go back to them. If you bring to Me a servant who was turning away [from Me], then I will praise you in the Tablet.”

The Apple of the Eye of The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him)

There are certain words ascribed to The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) in which he mentioned his best companions, described their attributes, and felt sorry for being separated from them. And how happy the one whom The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) feels sorry for being separated from!! Then, can we be like them: the apple of the eye of The Master of Our Time (May God hasten his honorable revelation)?!

It is related in a speech for The Prince of the Believers (God’s peace bestowed upon him) in which he referred to his companions: “Now, what was approaching this life has turned away, and what was turning away has approached. God’s good servants have resolved to depart, and they have sold the little perishable of this life for the lot imperishable of the hereafter. Our brothers whose bloods were shed in Siffeen would not be sorry that they are not alive today to swallow the torments and to drink the turbid water. They, by God, met God Who granted them their reward and resided them in the abode of security after having been in that of fear. Where are my brothers who walked the path and passed away for the sake of the truth? Where is Ammar? And where is Ibn Al-Tayhan? And where is the utterer of the two testimonies? And where are their fellow brothers who held a contract with God to die [i.e. to martyrize] and whose heads were cut and thrown into the valley?!” At that, he (God’s peace bestowed upon him) stroke his noble beard with his hand and wept for a long time. Then, he (God’s peace bestowed upon him) said, “Oh to my brothers who recited The Qur’an and perfected the recitation; who considered the duty carefully and performed it; who enlivened the Islamic norm and deadened the heresy. They were called for the fight in God’s Cause, and they answered the call. And they trusted the leader and followed him.”

Conclusion

The role of the mobilization is not restricted to the accomplishment of special practical temporary aims, but it exceeds this to set forth a model for the weakened people all around the world in order to pattern after and to walk on this path. This is what the mobilizationers must be concerned in i.e. how to set forth the model for the weakened people all over the world.

His Eminence Imam Al-Khomeini (May his secret be sacred) said, “What is hoped is that this general Islamic mobilization be a model for all the Islamic and weakened nations in the world; that the fifteenth century of immigration be the century of destructing the great idols and [the century] of replacing polytheism and atheism with peace and monotheism, oppression and aggression with justice and equity; and that it be the century of the committed human beings not that of the ignorant savages.”

The Victory of the Resistance

This victory is from God. It is a successfulness from God, a favor from God, and a blessing from God. And the major element in this great historical divine victory is what The Prince of the Believers Ali bin Abi Taleb (God’s peace bestowed upon him) referred to in one of his speeches where he said, “The war is ups and downs: a day for us and a day for our enemy. [It is so] till our God, when He perceives our honesty, will grant us victory and will descend the defeat on our enemy.”

Sayyed Abbas is the one who led to this ups and downs war. And we were aware that we would be in a war that was made up of ups and downs; that we would kill in it and would be killed; that we would win in it and would be overcome; that we would be defeated and would triumph; that our houses would be shelled, and we would shell our enemies’ houses; and that we would be afraid, and they [the enemies] would be afraid.

We were aware that such was the war, yet we were also aware of the result. We used to see it [the result] with the naked eye in the faces of the martyrs; in the eyes of the orphans of the martyrs; in the tears of the mothers of the martyrs; in the smiles of the fathers of the martyrs; and in the resolution of the fighters in God’s Cause: We had used to see the victory which all the people saw today.

It is not the fight which made the victory. The fight was just an evidence and a testimony from us before our God for our honesty. And it is our honesty which sent the victory down. It is our honesty and fidelity that brought the victory, hastened it, and gave it this range and this power and this glow.

You, our people in Lebanon, the fighters in God’s Cause, and the resistants have proved that you are honest, loyal, and true. The merit and peculiarity of this honest and true resistance since the very beginning and since the first day when Sayyed Abbas and some of his brothers in the religious school of The Waited For Imam (May God hasten his honorable revelation) in Baalbek after the Israelite invasion of Lebanon in 1982 sat down with each other in order to establish this resistance is that none of them had this life or its wreckage in mind; they had God [and only God] in their mind.

Since the very first day, this resistance has been a resistance for the sake of God. Its fight, tears, bloods, happiness, pain, joy, grief, and sacrifices have been for the sake of God. Those who have offered their children, selves, parents, and brothers and who have endured and suffered had God before their eyes; and they were aspiring to His Pleasure, Acceptance, Successfulness, and Victory. Because of this, the resistance in Lebanon has been from the most prominent historical confirmations and from the most prominent contemporary confirmations of the Saying of The Most High God: O you who believe! If you help (in the Cause of) Allah, He will help you and make your foothold firm﴿. 18

We did not expect that this victory would be achieved so fast. And God has been true to His Promise: If you help (in the Cause of) Allah, He will help you…﴿ And as regards the following period, we repeat the Saying of The Most High God: If Allah helps you, none can overcome you…﴿19

Sayyed Abbas and his brothers established a resistance for the sake of God. It has put a serious aim before it and has never bargained on it, and it has given it [the aim] the priority. Everything has been at the service of the resistance: Sayyed Abbas was at the service of the resistance; the scholars have been at the service of the resistance; the heroisms and the courage at the service of the resistance; the political work at the service of the resistance; the organization at the service of the resistance; the money at the service of the resistance; the media at the service of the resistance. It has never been that the resistance has been at the service of the political work, at the service of the organization, at the service of the individuals, or at the service of money. The resistance is at the service of God for the sake of accomplishing the victory. Such is the resistance that triumphed in Lebanon.
