Q: What are the works recommended to be done for the dead in a graveyard?
A: it is mustahabb to visit believers’ (mu’mins’) graves, to say salam to
them, to recite the Glorious Qur’an and to ask Allah for His mercy and
forgiveness towards them. It is also mustahabb to put hand on the grave facing
qiblah and recite the chapter of Al-Qadr 7 times in addition to al-Fatihah, al-Falq,
al-Nas and ayah al-Kursi 3 times for each. It is recommended, as well, to read
the chapter of Yasin, to say 'alhamdu lillahi rabbil-‘alamin' [praise be upon
Allah], to say `inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji‘ūn [we belong to Allah and we
will return to Him] and ask for one’s needs near the graves of one’s parents.
