Q: My brothers fought with a group of people which leads to injuring one of my
brothers with a knife. According to the traditions in effect here the blood
money is paid by both the criminal (who pays a part of it) and his tribe. Is the
amount taken from the criminal and his tribe haram? And if my brother took it
and gave me a part of it as a gift, is it halal for me?
A: If the crime is of the type which requires paying blood money or the victim
and the criminal reached an agreement by paying blood money, the blood money
only rests with the criminal and there is no objection that his tribe donate
some or all of it to be paid to the victim. In such a case the victim is allowed
to take it and it is halal for him as his own properties, i.e. he has the right
to give a part of it to his brother or anybody else and the second is allowed to
take it.
